SPARK
Taylor, SPARK Parent Partner, began working with Benjamin in the fall of 2018. The Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids program, SPARK, is based on a home visitation model. Parent partners conduct prescribed lessons, based on Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards, with preschool-age children and their parents. They educate parents on how to get children ready for kindergarten, evaluate children’s skill levels, and enhance parents’ abilities to be their child’s first and most important teacher. Benjamin was struggling to stay on track with his peers, he and mom were both becoming frustrated. Mom has him engaged in occupational therapy to address some of his barriers, but needed additional support at home. When Benjamin started the SPARK program, he could count up to 3 by himself and could only identify the letter B for Benjamin. In just a few short months working with SPARK, continuing in half-day preschool, and with mom’s amazing support, Ben knows over half of the alphabet and can count to 10 all by himself. We know with Taylor’s help, empowering Benjamin’s mom, and Benjamin’s determination, we are sure that he will be ready for kindergarten in the fall!
